What can I expect before my MRI?
• There is little preparation for an MRI exam. Take your daily medications as you normally would, unless instructed otherwise.
• There are few dietary restrictions for an MRI. For those exams, you will be notified of the requirements.
• Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your exam and check in with the receptionist. you will need to complete the MRI screening form.
• You may be asked to change into a hospital gown. If so, a locker will be supplied to secure your belongings.
• A technologist will verify your identification and the requested exam. Your screening form will be reviewed by the technologist in consultation with the radiologist, if indicated. If MRI contrast is indicated for the exam, a catheter will be interred in a vein in your arm by a nurse or technologist.
What can I expect during my MRI?

The duration of the procedure will vary, but most last from 45 minutes to one hour per body part.

You will be required to lie still during the exam. Depending on the body part that is being examined, you may be asked to hold your breath for up to 30 seconds.

The magnet is permanently open on both ends. It is well lit and there is a fan for patient comfort. There is also a two-way system for communication between patient and technologist. The part of the body being scanned will be placed in the middle of the magnet.

During the actual imaging, you will hear a loud intermittent banging noise. You will be provided with earplugs and/or headphones to minimize the noise during the procedure.

The technologist will hand you an alarm button to alert the technologist of any discomfort you may experience at any point during the MRI exam.

Some MRI exams require an injection of intravenous MRI contrast. Inform the technologist if you experience any discomfort during the injection.
What can I expect after my MRI?

If contrast injection is used, the catheter in your vein will be removed before you go home.

An allergic reaction from MRI contrast is extremely rare. However, if you experience symptoms such as a rash, hives, or shortness of breath, you should notify the technologist. If these symptoms appear after you have left the facility, you should call your doctor or go to the nearest hospital.
How do I prepare for my exam?

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your exam time so that you may be checked in for your visit. To avoid delays or the postponement of your exam, please remember to bring your complete insurance information including all insurance cards, a valid photo ID, as well as your physician’s referral.

Wear comfortable, metal-free clothing (i.e. sweatpants, T-shirt, shorts, metal-free bra, etc.) please leave all jewelry and valuables at home. It may be necessary for you to change into a patient gown or scrubs depending on the area being scanned. Secure lockers will be provided for your clothing and purse.

There will be time for a qualified technologist to answer all your questions before the exam begins. We invite you to call your us with any immediate questions or concerns.
Why would I not be able to have an MRI?
Situations and conditions that may affect your safety should be discussed with your doctor prior to having an MRI. Please make us aware if you have a history of the following:

Brain aneurysm clips

Cochlear implants or ear tubes

Electronic implantable devices

Neurostimulator

Breast Expanders

Welding or Metal work

Artificial heart valve

Pacemaker
What type of insurance do you accept?

We participate in most insurance plans, managed care programs, and accept workers compensation, PIP, and Letters of Protection. If you need help paying out-of-pocket costs, we offer cash discounts and payment plans for patients experiencing a demonstrated financial hardship.

We will collect amounts equal to your in-network benefits and will notify your insurance plan accordingly. Deductibles and co-insurance must be paid at the time of the examination.

Some plans do require pre-authorization before you receive healthcare services. Check with your insurance company to determine if this is necessary as you could be responsible for all charges if proper authorization or referrals are not obtained. Your insurance company can also answer any questions you may have about what is covered on your plan.

How do I book an appointment?

Our centers offer extended hours, including early mornings, evenings and weekends. In many cases, we can schedule you for the same day you call for an appointment. Our goal is to schedule your appointment at the best possible time for you.

If you are unable to keep your appointment, please call the clinic and your physician will be notified and your examination rescheduled. If transportation is an issue, the clinic can help make arrangements for you.

Some procedures require a driver for your safety (i.e. if sedation or anesthetic are administered). When the appointment is made, you will be told if a driver is needed. Please make the necessary arrangements or let us know in advance so we can make arrangements for you.
