A CT (computed tomography) scan, also called a CAT scan, is an imaging technique that combines multiple X-ray images taken from different angles to produce detailed 3D images of bones, organs, blood vessels, and soft tissues inside the body. Unlike a standard X-ray, which provides a flat, two-dimensional image, a CT scan allows doctors to see “slices” of the body.
During a CT scan, you lie on a movable table that slides through a circular opening. Inside, an X-ray tube rotates around your body while detectors on the opposite side measure the X-rays that pass through. A computer then reconstructs these measurements into detailed cross-sectional images . Dense tissues like bone absorb more X-rays, while air-filled spaces absorb less, allowing precise differentiation of structures.
